Transporting pets on the train

Transporting pets on the train

  1. In trains operated by Koleje Dolnośląskie S.A., passengers can transport pets under their care, provided they are not inconvenient for fellow passengers (e.g., due to noise, smell, etc.). The transported animals should be placed in suitable containers (carriers, cages, boxes, baskets, etc.), ensuring that they do not cause harm to people or property, in accordance with the provisions of TP-KD. The passenger may use the space above and below the seat they occupy to accommodate animals transported in the containers mentioned earlier. The passenger is obliged to supervise the animals taken on the trip.
  2. The transport of a dog on the train (no more than one) under the care of the passenger is allowed, provided that:
    • The passenger has a valid ticket with a flat-rate price for transporting the dog unless it is being transported under the conditions specified in paragraph 1 and has a current dog vaccination certificate (sample certificates include forms No. 13 and 14);
    • The dog is kept on a leash and wears a muzzle;
    • The passenger is responsible for the cleanliness of the area where the dog is transported.
  3. Travelling by train with a dog or other domestic animal entails a prohibition on placing animals on a seat. Animals must not disturb the peace in the train; otherwise, the provisions of paragraph 4 apply.
  4. If other passengers object to having an animal nearby, the train attendant team should suggest an alternative place; if this is not possible, the passenger is obliged to leave the train at the nearest station. A partially unused travel ticket, properly certified, is subject to refund without the deduction of a handling fee.
  5. The consent of fellow passengers for transporting a dog on the train is not required in the case of transporting:
    • guide dogs for the blind;
    • assistance dogs for people with disabilities;
    • working dogs with handlers.
  6. If a passenger violates the regulations on transporting animals whose transport is prohibited, the train attendant team certifies the use of the ticket for the part of the trip and collects an additional fee for the violation of the regulations on animal transport, determined based on the regulation of the Minister of Infrastructure of 20 January 2005 (in case of refusal to pay the fee, a summons is issued). At the nearest train station, the passenger along with the animals is removed from the train. A partially unused travel ticket, properly certified, is subject to refund without the deduction of a handling fee.
  7. The rules for charging fees for transporting animals are regulated by TP-KD (§ 37). The fee for travelling by train with a dog or other animal is specified in the Price List (chapter IV).
