Assistance in getting to the station platform is provided by PKP SA or PKP PLK. It is not always available - a list of stations where it is available can be found at: https://www.pkp.pl/pl/dworce/informacje-dla-pasazerow-niepelnosprawnych-lub-o-ograniczonej-sprawnosci-ruchowej. Staff are under obligation to provide assistance in the area trains arrive and depart from, but not during transport from a station platform to another station.

A person with reduced mobility should arrive at the station no later than 30 minutes before the scheduled departure of the train. This is the time necessary so that they can reach the train safely and with ease.

Information for people with disabilities and people with reduced mobility. We invite you to familiarise yourself with the contents of this document before planning your journey with Koleje Dolnośląskie (KD) – Lower Silesian Railways.

KD offers journeys in its modern rolling stock , well suited to the needs of passengers with disabilities:

  • no steps inside the train,
  • wide doors,
  • spacious toilets, suitable for passengers with disabilities,
  • a retractable step outside each external door .

In addition, every KD train is equipped with a ramp to enable wheelchair users to get on and off safely and in comfort.

 A passenger using a wheelchair should use one that meets the requirements set out in Commission Regulation (EU) No. 1300/2014 dated 18th November 2014 on the technical specifications for interoperability concerning the accessibility of the rail system in the European Union for people with disabilities and people with reduced mobility (OJ EU L of 12 December 2014).

Reports on the topic of assistance on journeys by Koleje Dolnośląskie

In accordance with the requirements of Regulation (EC) No 2021/782 dated 29th April 2021 on the rights and obligations of rail passengers, assistance to people with disabilities is provided on the condition that Koleje Dolnośląskie is notified of the need to provide it a minimum of 24 hours in advance..

W przypadku braku zgłoszenia potrzeby pomocy przynajmniej 24 godziny przed podróżą Koleje Dolnośląskie nie gwarantują możliwości jej udzielenia, podejmą jednak wszelkie stosowne wysiłki dla zapewnienia wsparcia w taki sposób, by osoba z niepełnosprawnością lub o ograniczonej możliwości poruszania się mogła odbyć podróż.

If notification of the need for assistance is not given at least 24 hours before travel, Koleje Dolnośląskie does not guarantee that such assistance will be provided, but will make all reasonable efforts to provide support in such a way that the person with a disability or with reduced mobility is able to travel.

Notifications may be made by passengers with regard to a request for assistance during an intended journey on a train operated by Koleje Dolnośląskie Ltd., including changing trains to one operated by another carrier, in the following manner:

  • contacting the information line on the number +48 76 742 11 12 (accessible 24 hours a day, 7 days a week),
  • at a KD Customer Service Office.

On receipt of the application, we will make every effort to ensure that you have a comfortable journey. Our team of train attendants (the train manager and the ticket inspector) will help you when getting on and off the train as well as when taking your seat. You are warmly invited to make your journeys by KD.

KD staff are obliged to provide assistance when passengers are getting on or off company rolling stock. Assistance in getting to the station platform and in accessing parts of the railway station itself is provided by PKP S.A. (In english JSC)  (see below).

In the event that a disabled person or a person with reduced mobility cancels a journey, please notify us of the cancellation at least 12 hours in advance.

Purchasing a ticket for a KD train journey

Disabled people and those with reduced mobility are not charged an additional fee when they purchase a ticket on a train, nor are they required to report the lack of a ticket to the train staff. In such a case, a document confirming their disability and a document with their photograph must be presented in order to confirm identity. People with visible physical disabilities (whether permanent or temporary) are exempt from this obligation.

You may pay for the ticket either in cash or with a payment card.

1. Availability of railway infrastructure adapted to the needs of people with disabilities and with reduced mobility.

  • By clicking on the pictogram of a wheelchair user, next to the name of the station in the Passenger Portal, you may see whether a given station is adapted for the use of people with disabilities.

2. Availability of assistance services at railway stations for people with disabilities and with reduced mobility.

Information regarding assistance services for people with disabilities and people with reduced mobility within the bounds of a railway station is constantly updated on the website Spółki PLK S.A.

3. What is the procedure for reporting the need for assistance at a station?

Assistance is also available if you are only moving around the station area itself. Any need for such assistance should be reported well in advance by telephone on the number: 22 474 13 13,  completing this form or by sending an email to this address: pomocprm@pkp.pl  – after doing any of these, within a maximum of 30 minutes of receiving the notification, the security staff at the given station will be ready to provide assistance.

Specifications for a wheelchair that has been adapted for use on trains:

The wheelchair ensures stability and safety when getting on and off the train, as well as when travelling inside the train, including, most importantly of all, the ability to place it safely in a marked space designated for a wheelchair.

Basic measurements:

  • a width 700 mm, which increases by at least 50 mm on each side to provide space for the hands when moving,
  • a length of 1 200 mm, which increases by 50 mm for the feet,
  • a maximum height of 1375 mm.

Weight:

  • The fully loaded weight of the wheelchair, including the wheelchair user (and any luggage) is 300 kg for an electric wheelchair which does not require assistance in order to pass across a boarding aid.
  • The fully loaded weight of the wheelchair, including the wheelchair user (and any luggage) is 200 kg for a manual wheelchair.
